great alums

Had lunch w/an alum who is working in the VC industry yesterday. Had a great time and it turned out we had very similar backgrounds - same undergrad, same graduation year, both worked in IT consulting, yadda yadda. Hopefully we will be able to keep in touch - and who knows, maybe we will be doing deals together in a couple of years :)

Overall, I have been very happy with the level of interest and contact that the recent alums keep with the school. They are great about sending along job opportunities, and I have found them almost always willing to take a call or meeting. Regardless of where you end up going to school, I suggest you do the same. It makes your degree that much more valuable. In fact, I would argue that the vast majority of the value (for any MBA from any school) is in the alumni network and how much of that you are able to leverage.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and don't work too hard on those applications :)

Great blog. Quick question - I have applied for the coming J-term. I heard this year there is going to be one less cluster. Are the J-term clusters the same size as regular clusters? I am guessing this will make the J-term more competive this year.

CBS has just announced that the J-term clusters would stay the same, which means we will have three clusters as usual.

Anyone have an idea how big is the typical j-term applicant pool? I am wondering how many spots are taken by the j-term application deadline?

Don’t quote me on this but I have known through CBS admission folks that normally they receive close to 1200 to 1400 applications for 190 J-term seats. The yield is around 80%. Please note that the CBS does not differentiate between J-term and the Sep-term application logistics and release them together at end of the admissions year. This year the CBS received close to 5500 applications for 711 seats (almost 190 J-term and 510 Sep-term). Yield was 79%.
